The airspace around Paris will be closed this evening, Friday, July 26, 2024, due to the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games. This closure extends over a perimeter of 150 km around the capital.
Within this Temporary Interdiction Zone (ZIT), all airports in the Paris region will be closed from 5:30pm to midnight, meaning the suspension of all flights to and from Paris-CDG, Paris-Orly and Le Bourget airports. Only emergency services flights and those benefiting from exceptional dispensation from the French Air Force will be allowed to operate during this period, according to the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC).
The disruption to commercial traffic will start at 5pm, due to the traffic regulations put in place in advance at Paris airports. Paris-CDG will be able to resume operations from 11:30pm for flights scheduled from midnight, while Paris-Orly will be under curfew.
This ITZ has been introduced to ensure the implementation of the special aviation security measures (DPSA) to protect the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This measure, initiated by the Minister of the Interior, aims to prevent terrorist threats.
