Aéroports de Paris: 4.4% increase in passenger traffic in the first half of 2024
Paris-CDG and Paris-Orly airports recorded a 4.4% increase in passenger traffic in the first half of 2024, reaching 49.1 million passengers, mainly thanks to connections with Africa and North America, according to airport operator Groupe ADP (Aéroports de Paris).
Paris-Orly, which is mainly served by low-cost airlines, has almost returned to its pre-pandemic passenger levels, reaching 99.8% of January to June 2019 figures. By contrast, Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle, which specializes in long-haul flights, has only recovered 91.3% of its pre-Covid traffic.
Asia-Pacific routes, among the last to reopen after the health restrictions, recovered only 83.1% of first-half 2019 passenger volumes. South America also remains behind, at 80.7%. Conversely, connections between Paris airports and Africa surpassed pre-crisis levels, reaching 113%, and North America grew to 106.3%.
The decline in domestic routes in France continues, with only 70.6% of passengers in the first half of 2019, marking a 6% year-on-year drop. Industry professionals attribute this trend to the decline in business customers, who increasingly prefer rail and videoconferencing.
Internationally, the twenty or so airport facilities managed by ADP Group around the world have largely returned to their pre-crisis levels, reaching 106.1% of first-half 2019 passengers, or 170.2 million. This momentum is driven by GMR in India (116.6%) and TAV in Turkey (111.8%).
