AirBaltic Orders 10 More Airbus A220-300s, Bringing Total to 90 Aircraft
Latvian airline AirBaltic has confirmed a new order for 10 Airbus A220-300s, bolstering its already considerable fleet of this aircraft. With this fourth order, AirBaltic brings its total firm orders to 90 A220-300s, consolidating its position as the largest operator of this model in Europe and worldwide.
AirBaltic, which currently operates around 50 A220-300s, was the aircraft's launch customer in 2016. Since 2020, the Latvian national airline has opted for a fleet made up exclusively of these modern single-aisle aircraft, a strategic choice that testifies to its confidence in the performance of the A220-300.
The Airbus A220-300, originally designed by Bombardier and acquired by Airbus in 2018, is renowned for its fuel and environmental efficiency. This aircraft can carry between 120 and 150 passengers over distances of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 km). It combines advanced aerodynamics, state-of-the-art materials, and Pratt & Whitney's GTF™ engines, reducing noise footprint by 50% and NOx emissions by 40% compared to previous-generation aircraft.
The A220-300 also offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per seat, and is already capable of being operated on up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims to have all its aircraft flying on 100% SAF by 2030.
By the end of July 2024, Airbus had received over 900 orders for the A220 from more than 30 customers, of which some 350 aircraft have already been delivered. The model is currently used by over 20 airlines worldwide on more than 1,400 routes, confirming its global success.
