This winter, Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport welcomes a new player, the airline HiSky. It will offer two weekly flights to Bucharest, Romania. Additionally, the Moldovan company plans to put an Airbus A330 into service by the end of the current year.

This route provides travelers with the opportunity to explore the Romanian capital, just a three-hour flight from Bordeaux. Every Monday and Tuesday starting from December 21, 2023, HiSky, based in Chișinău, Moldova, will depart from Bordeaux at 1:30 PM and land in Bucharest at 5:30 PM. The return flight will leave Bucharest at 10:15 AM and arrive in Bordeaux at 12:45 PM, as stated in their press release. This new route will be the seventh international destination served by HiSky from its base in Bucharest. The CEO of the company, Iulian Scorpan, stated, "We have been operating flights to Paris from Baia Mare and Chisinau for over 2 years, but regarding Bucharest, we wanted to create a connection with another region of France, less explored by other companies."

HiSky has also announced that it is on track to surpass two million passengers soon. Currently, the company operates a fleet of seven Airbus A320 family aircraft with an average age of seven years. It offers regular services from Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Baia Mare, Iasi, and Chisinau to both national and international destinations.

Furthermore, their website specifies that they will soon welcome their first wide-body aircraft, the Airbus A330-200, with a capacity of 295 passengers in a two-class configuration, which will join their fleet by the end of the year. This capacity expansion announcement comes just six months after the introduction of two A321neo aircraft this year.

With the introduction of the Airbus A330-200, offering a range of over 14 hours, HiSky eliminates constraints related to layovers in major European airports for flights to distant destinations. This will enable the company to open direct routes to any major economic or tourist center in the world, as highlighted in their press release. Iulian Scorpan, CEO of HiSky, added, "This year has been full of achievements for us, but also for aviation in the Republic of Moldova and Romania. We will soon reach two million passengers, we have opened many new destinations, we have become one of the most reliable operators in Chisinau and rank 4th among companies operating in Romania, and we have introduced two new Airbus A321 neo aircraft into the fleet. We are extremely proud to continue making aviation history and to once again be pioneers by introducing this Airbus A330 on regular routes." As a reminder, HiSky is currently conducting an ongoing recruitment campaign for pilots, flight attendants, stewards, and cabin chiefs.
