Turkish Airlines closes 2023 on a successful note, having carried 83.4 million passengers, a remarkable 23.5% increase in domestic capacity and 16% increase in international capacity compared to 2022. The airline continued its growth trajectory, aiming to expand its fleet to 800 aircraft by 2033.
Despite the continuing challenges of geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic uncertainties, Turkish Airlines reached new heights in 2023, outperforming its peers with rapid capacity increases. Domestic passenger capacity grew by 23.5%, exceeding 30 million passengers, while international capacity increased by 16%, with 53 million passengers carried, notably with a notable increase in travel to European countries with large Turkish populations.
While global capacity for international airlines was 12% below 2019 figures, Turkish Airlines outperformed its 2019 international capacity by 27%, underlining its agility and adaptability in a complex environment. In addition, thanks to investments in aviation infrastructure, Istanbul Airport has become Europe's leading airport in terms of the number of daily flights.
With a fleet now comprising 440 aircraft, Turkish Airlines continues its commitment to sustainable growth in the aviation sector. The company was also active in earthquake relief efforts in Kahramanmaraş, providing free humanitarian flights and donations to support reconstruction.
The successes of 2023 testify to Turkish Airlines' commitment to its goals for 2033, aiming to become a major player in the sector with revenues exceeding $50 billion and carrying more than 170 million passengers.
