The profession of airplane pilot has made many children dream. But how does one become a pilot and what is the salary?

Like the captain of a ship, the pilot who flies an airplane is at the controls of an aircraft that can carry either passengers or cargo, and sometimes both. It is a technical job that requires all the conditions to be met to ensure the safety of the people on board the aircraft. Moreover, with the growth of tourism and air traffic, the demand for airplane pilots seems to be constantly increasing. This is why the training to become a pilot is particularly demanding, and airlines are looking for more and more qualified profiles. Extremely resistant to stress and endowed with a great reactivity, the airplane pilot must also have an irreproachable hygiene of life as well as an excellent physical condition. All these qualities and skills, if they are combined, allow the airplane pilot to earn very attractive salaries.

The determining criteria for the salary of an airplane pilot

From a commercial flight point of view, the airline pilot is an employee of an airline company. Indeed, if there are many airlines, there are just as many salary scales, depending on the company that employs the pilot. The salary also varies according to the routes flown, i.e. whether they are short, medium or long-haul. Finally, a pilot's seniority and level of experience will determine his or her salary. Generally speaking, the salary of a pilot at the beginning of his career is around €2,600 and €3,000 gross. He then has the status of co-pilot and is often sent on national, short-haul flights.

What is the salary of an airplane pilot?

As you can see, the salary of an airplane pilot depends on many criteria that vary according to his age and level of experience. However, on average in France, an airline pilot with a few years of experience earns between 7,000 and 10,000 € gross per month. A very experienced, highly qualified pilot at the end of his or her career can earn between €15,000 and €30,000 gross per month. Beyond the responsibility that such a job requires, it is likely that these salaries take into account the disadvantages that are linked to it. Indeed, it is a job that requires a lot of qualifications and time. Pilots can be called upon to fly any day of the year, including holidays.

If the training is very expensive, as we mentioned above, it is because the salary is also attractive. Indeed, the average salary of an airline pilot is around 100 000 euros per year. This means a monthly salary of 8,000 euros gross. This salary is the standard amount, other criteria can be added during the calculation. This is the case of the number of years of experience, the company that employs you, the demand of the air sector, the type of aircraft. A prestigious company may employ a less experienced pilot and pay him a lot of money. Conversely, a less prestigious company may hire a super experienced pilot with a low salary. So, the prestige of the airline has a lot to do with it.
